Fun Announcement:
For a limited time (till October 31st), I am giving my e-Book of “The Career Changing Guide” at “Pay What you Want” instead of quoting my price. Grab it here. PS: It comes from someone (me) who has gone from being a CA to a writer to Content Manager to now a ghostwriter and soloprenuer. Tried and tested truths, instead of just random curation.
You ain’t getting a better deal after October. Try it here, by paying whatever you want.
…
Now, let’s go to today’s Raw and Real, where, each week, we talk about:
1 Raw and Real Lesson on work/life
2 One-Liners
3 Gratitudes
And we are charged up for the week :)
Let’s go!!!
1 Raw and Real Lesson on work
For the past couple of weeks, I was working with a client on a one-time high-ticket project.
We used to discuss my deliverables each week, I would deliver them, but they always had a problem.
While client having a problem is an opportunity to solve, the worse part was they never knew what they really wanted - so everything that came to them was a question mark.
And meanwhile, it was draining my energy in unexpected ways.
I was taking 3X time to do something that was effortless to me before.
I was not only “writing” for them, also “teaching” them why I am writing the way I am, collecting evidences from tweets of writing gurus, and explaining them how this is what resonates with their target audience.
But everything that we agreed upon during the week, in the feedback session, was met with lack of trust, totally switching the topic, and of course, invading my privacy unprofessionally. (They once texted me on a Sunday at 9 am and then at 11 am because I did not respond for the 9 am text of rescheduling a call on Monday.)
Once I even slept only 2 hours a night to submit the best work, but now you know the drift :)
I finally decided to discontinue working with them.
I told them clearly what were the issues every week, to no avail.
Thus, I collated all of them together, and sent an assertive (but not harsh) email on ending the project.
I am usually someone who is very grateful (who knows it better than you all) and also very kind to everyone.
However, I have figured, that unless you draw your boundaries and get better at identifying people you don’t want to work with and the ones you want to work with, no one can truly help you.
Turns out, I am now much lighter, have also started “attracting” better clients (you bet this alignment works like never before), and of course, am back to dancing to reels (most important lol).
But none of this is helpful to you, unless I share the lessons with you which I wish I knew before. Here they are (no. 3 is my favourite):
People’s vibes shows them out loud. You just have to be willing to listen to it, instead of shutting it down.
It is going to be difficult to say no (and if you are firing a lot of clients, maybe you need to change your systems), but how will anyone stand for you if you don’t stand for yourself?
Nothing, absolutely nothing is worth it if every conversation with someone makes you disbelieve in yourself. I can’t tell you how much of my self worth has risen again, just because I took a step for myself.
So go, get out there. Most clients are wonderful. I can testify for that. But when a tiny fragment comes that is not who you are, it is okay to not work with them. No money or experience would be worth it. Trust me on this.
2 One-Liners
The three magical words: “I am there.”
3 Gratitudes:
To be able to sleep on time :)
To be able to read. My first, last and only love <3
To be able to write daily, express myself, and help you all in the process. Nothing like it :))
On that note, this is all for today, you wonderful people!
See if you want to check out “The Career Changing Guide” if you want to change your career at any point or are in the middle of it. If not, no problem at all. We are good :)
See you next Saturday
